From the property's location, you can visit the surrounding village, which has a medieval castle with the legend of the Baroness of Carini, a baroque cathedral, and natural caves full of charm. If you like the sea, there are the beaches of Terrasini, Capaci, and Isola delle Femmine, or you can move on to Mondello, which is a real picture postcard.
Carini is a charming municipality located in the north-western part of Sicily, a few kilometres from Palermo, and overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea with a coastline that alternates between sandy stretches and striking cliffs. This small town, with its ancient origins, preserves a rich historical, cultural and scenic heritage that makes it an interesting destination for those wishing to explore a less touristy but equally authentic Sicily.
The most emblematic element is undoubtedly the Castello di Carini, a medieval fortress originally built in the Norman period and subsequently enlarged and modified over the centuries. The castle is best known for the tragic and legendary story of Laura Lanza, the Baroness of Carini, who was murdered by her father in the 16th century for reasons of honour. Even today, the story still hovers in the rooms of the castle, and it is said that on particular days the imprint of the young woman's bloodied hand can be glimpsed on the wall. Besides the legend, the castle offers a breathtaking view of the valley below and the Gulf of Carini, especially at sunset. Carini is not only history, but also nature and the sea. The coastal area, in particular Villagrazia di Carini, is very popular during the summer months, thanks to its beaches and clear sea. Although some areas have been urbanised, it is still possible to find wilder stretches of coastline, ideal for those seeking tranquillity. Also within a short distance are nature reserves such as Capo Gallo and the Oriented Nature Reserve of Monte Pellegrino, which can be reached by car for a day of trekking or swimming. From a cultural and religious point of view, the numerous churches in the area are also worth a visit, such as the Mother Church dedicated to Santa Croce, which preserves Baroque elements and evidence of local devotion. In the surrounding area are ancient bagli, watch towers and the remains of rural structures that tell of the agricultural economy of the past, made up of citrus, almond and olive groves.
Carini is also known for its markets and typical Sicilian gastronomy: from arancine (fried rice balls) to pasta with sardines, and desserts such as cannoli and cassata, each visit is accompanied by intense and genuine flavours. There are restaurants and agriturismi in the area where you can enjoy traditional dishes prepared with local ingredients.
Despite being close to Palermo, Carini maintains its own identity, made up of a balance of history, nature and everyday Sicilian life. It is a place that welcomes without frills, but with authenticity, and that offers much to discover to those who want to go beyond the beaten tourist routes.
