Sometimes we get the chance to offer a truly unique place to stay and Mulino La Pietra is one such example.
A former mill set on a riverbank, this old stone building revels in its original purpose.
The olive press is now a feature of the living area and the flowing water that once powered its workings provides a gentle soundtrack and a mesmerising view.
The result is an utterly romantic setting.
Days can be spent relaxing on a sunlounger at the water’s edge, occasionally stirring to take a refreshing bath in the natural plunge pools created by the weir.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner or all three can be enjoyed in the shade of the riverside pergola.
Yet, you’re only a short stroll from the village, Pietrapiana, where you’ll find a bottega and pizza restaurant.
And, with the main road close by, it’s easy to go exploring.
A sightseeing excursion to Florence is just an hour’s drive north-west.
The cellar doors of Chianti Classico, to the south-west, beg to be knocked on.
While cyclists and walkers can rise to the challenges of the nearby Pratomagno mountains.
Wherever you choose to roam you’ll be pleased to return to such comfy lodgings.
The stylish contemporary reworking of the interior has infused the place with light, enhanced by the opening up of the whole ground floor to provide a seamless living space with a lounge, dining area and well-equipped kitchen.
Upstairs, you'll find two spacious double bedrooms, both with en-suites.
There's something else they both have, too – prime views and sounds of that river running by.
