Locoated a short walk from the historic town of Civray, the cottage comprises a lounge/dining room with cosy log burner as we are open all year round (though not generally needed from April to end September!), a good-sized kitchen with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and fully equipped for indoor or outdoor dining. For cosy winter evenings, there is free Netflix. A private garden with decking and lawn has a range of furniture (tables, chairs, sunbeds and deckchairs) and a BBQ is a favourite among our guests, there is even a 'quiet corner' tucked in an arbour, for reading or just relaxing. Colourful geraniums complete the picture-postcard look of the garden. Upstairs are two bedrooms (with electric heaters for winter), a pretty bathroom a with bath and shower over and a WC. There is also a separate WC. There is a new heat pump for the winter months, that is reversible for air-conditioning for the summer.
Our guests have given us top ratings and love the gentle walk into the old town of Civray where there is a range of shops, bars, restaurants, church, two boulangeries (watch the waistline!) and a twice- weekly market. The ODA centre boasts two new swimming pool (one indoor open all year-round, one outdoor open May - end September), a sauna and gym. There is even a little cinema that shows the latest films in French and English. You can hire a kayak and scoot along the river to be collected by the kayak owners at your preferred stopping point. If you fancy 'bright lights' the university city of Poitiers is just 40 minutes away for retail therapy or a trip to larger markets (including a Christmas market). From Poitiers you can catch a fast TGV train to Paris, making it for lunch in just 1 1/4 hours! The coast at La Rochelle and Ile de Re is just 1 1/2 hours distant or a drive down to wine-tasting in Bordeaux, just 2 hours by car. Local attractions include the Vallée des Singes (Monkey Valley) where the apes roam freely and Futuroscope the science and media park near Poitiers. Cycling is popular in the area, as is walking among many of the marked trails. We are a very popular holiday home in the area and recommend booking as early as you can. Short stays of 3 nights welcome, as well as longer stays.
